Vice magazine music writer, drummer of The Swellers, turns his sights on Flint

The Flint Journal / mLive.com did a story on me writing for Noisey, touring with The Swellers and working at Guitar Center.

Click the picture to watch an awkward drumming video, see some epic pictures and get a little insight on the man, the myth, the legend: ME.

This is an awesome article. Check it out!

Do you want to win some exclusive stuff from special Michigan Swellers shows?! Well, today is your lucky day. We’re celebrating our two year anniversary as a blog, and we just happen to have these two posters laying around to give out! The first is from the Detroit date of the Pentimento and Diamond Youth tour. The second is (obviously) from the amazing tenth anniversary show last August.

We will ALSO be giving away an exclusive hand-written lyric sheet for “Montreal Screwjob” (thanks Nick!), because it’s always been a favorite of ours, and the guys once learned how to play it just for us and our friends last year

What do you have to do to win?! All you have to do is be a follower of the blog and send us a story about your favorite Swellers-related moment from the past two years. It could be a live show, something funny/stupid the guys did, something you did with your friends, ANYTHING. Just your favorite memory that involves the band from the past two years. All we ask is that submissions be at least one decent sized paragraph. We will select a winner on MAY 11th, when Kyle is here in Michigan with me (Kayla).

We’re so happy to have been around for this long and for all the experiences we’ve been able to have because of the blog. We hope you guys feel the same way. We seriously can’t wait to start digging through all the submissions.

Just in case people have missed the explanation before, here is what “Vehicle City Blues" is about!

Tonight was not only amazing, but it was a historical night for The Swellers. After 10 years as a band, they got to play where it all started. They played 21 songs with every current and previous member of the band. Check out the set list in the picture above!

The final song was Tunnel Vision and a ton of people got on stage at The Swellers request! Since Nick’s pedals and stuff got trampled on, and the crowd was chanting for “one more song!” he said he’d play some acoustic songs outside!

I will post some videos later of the acoustic songs, if my singing isn’t too loud that is… Nick played stars, dirt, feet first, and he played the song he recently covered from No Use For A Name in honor of Tony Sly!!

It was so awesome for him to play more songs for us right out on the sidewalk.
I can’t describe how…how, monumental this night was for the band. They got to relive their past, reunite with old friends, and play in a place that gave them the opportunity to grow in the first place.

This show was the icing on the cake for proving the doubters wrong. Selling out a show with no issue at all, and having the crowd go ballistic at every single song. There was so much energy, and The Swellers were all smiles just as the much as we were.

It was a perfect night, and I’m glad that myself, and anyone and everyone who is a part of this blog in some way, stumbled upon The band that has changed our lives, The

Yesterday there was a Volunteer Day at our venue the Flint Local 432. 6 years ago I put in about 30 hours of volunteer work doing some painting, ceiling scraping, cleaning, construction, etc. You may hear me talk about that place a lot on here, in Alternative Press and through The Swellers overall.

We’re extremely excited that the construction is going on, heating/cooling is finished, bathrooms are finished, store front is almost finished and soon… we get to play there again. It’s been over 6 years, but it’s almost fate to open in time for our 10 year anniversary.

Trying to find out if it’ll be open sooner than we think… we may be doing something really special there. You may want to save up some gas money and head to Flint in the next few months.. Fingers crossed.

LOOK!  ”you may want to save up some gas money…”  Yeah.  You know I am,  can’t wait to see where this goes!
